Table Stakes

In the context of card game gambling, the term table stakes refers to a rule that stipulates that a maximum bet a player can make during a hand cannot exceed the amount of money they had at its start. In practical terms, this rule serves to forbid players from buying additional chips during the course of a hand to use for wagering. Players have to wait until the end of the round to buy extra chips from the dealer or boxman.
