Sports Betting Leads Google Search Requests 2018 In Kenya

Social media management platforms like We Are Social and Hootsuite provided a search report on 11 betting requests among 20 top Google searches in Kenya in 2018.

The famous bookmaker SportPesa has been number 1 among the top 20 of the chart for some years. Furthermore, ‘SportPesa Login’ holds position number 10, whilst BetPawa – 5, Betin – 7, Betika – 9 and Forebet – 13.

Sports data sites also were in the list:

• Livescore – 3,
• Prediction – 8,
• Livescore CZ – 17
• SportPesa Livescore – 19.

Arsenal and Chelsea football clubs have the 12^th and 16^th places on the chart. Kenyan betting sites such as SportPesa – Nr. 9, Betin – Nr. 10, BetPawa – Nr. 17 and 1xBet – Nr. 20 are all among the highly visited sites. 

This niche presence on the Kenyan market is 84%, while it is only 32% in the six East African Community states. This is certainly an indicator of online betting popularity among Kenyans.

Nielsen survey showed 27% presence of online betting in Kenya in 2018. In comparison, in Tanzania – 5%, in Uganda – 4% and Rwanda – 2% – these indicators have a noticeably lower level.

The reach.africa app shows that betting took the 2nd place (after ‘bills & utilities’) among online transactions in Kenya. For example, betting is on the 10th place in Nigeria. Betin, SportPesa, BetPawa, Shabiki and Betika became the most well-known bookmakers in Kenya.

According to a survey by Geopol in 2017, 54% of young people in Kenya made bets on sports and their wages for the month exceed their peers’ from the other African countries
