The UK Gambling Commission has unveiled its three-year plan to reduce any harmful effects of gambling. National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms will feature “firm regulatory enforcement approach.”

The program will involve charities, health organizations, regulators and businesses. Two main areas of the strategy consist of prevention and education, and treatment and support.

This is the first strategy since the implementation of the previous plan in 2016. The announcement follows various efforts to reduce gambling harm. These include the reduction of maximum bet and the potential ban on credit card gambling.

Conducting more research will be the main focus of the new strategy. It will be conducted in accordance with recent technology developments, changes in consumer behavior and attitudes toward gambling. Research progress can be tracked down from a dedicated website.

UK Minister for Sports and Civil Society Mims Davies has also given a speech regarding the new strategy. She said that the government is not attempting to stop people from “having fun,” but rather to find “the right balance between freedom and protections.”
