Sports Gambling Officially Takes Effect in Arkansas

Just like many other US states, Arkansas has recently legalized sports betting. While not all of them have implemented proper regulations for gambling to go live, gambling in Arkansas went into full force on Monday. The first ceremonial bet was placed in the Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.

Right now, only two establishments are eligible to receive bets. These establishments are working racetracks, where now, onlookers can place bets as well. The amendment also allows two casinos to be built. Similar legislation was also recently approved in Illinois. However, Arkansas was ahead of the former, as their law passed back in November 2018.

Apart from horse races, bets can also be placed on major league sports. Moreover, several online casino games are offered at the establishments in addition to sports betting.

More states are soon likely to implement a similar way of sports betting. Seeing the talks of legal sports betting in California, the precedent is likely to push more legislators towards legalizing sports betting.
