In the context of gambling tournaments, an add on is the option for players to buy additional chips at a specific time. This option is usually granted to all remaining, active players. For example, after a few rounds, the players might be presented with an option to buy 2,000 chips for $50 USD. 

The add on system allows players to better manage their risks. They can start with a smaller sum and then, if they feel confident or the situation requires it, buy additional chips.
