Two Swedish Gambling Sites Permitted Self-Excluded Gamblers to Play

Sweden gambling licensees allowed self-excluded gamblers to access online gambling sites and were fined for it. Self-exclusion from an online casino is a right for every online casino player and is required to be accessible with most licenses.

On Friday, Spelinspektionen, Swedish regulator body, said that it had imposed a fine on the company in the amount of 4 million Swedish crowns ($430 000 US). The reason for the fine was the permission for the players whose names are included in the Spelpaus self-exclusion registry to play on the site.

Genesis Global reported that access problems that occurred in January were due to a malfunction of the third-party organization Spelpaus and at the moment the problem has already been resolved.

The second fine in the amount of SEK100 000 was similar and was imposed by the autonomous Åland Islands region in Finland, which is primarily Swedish-speaking. C. Rosenberg, Spelinspektionen CEO, informed that a great difference between two fines depended on the attitude of the companies to the solution of the problem and their turnover.

Spelinspektionen reported that Spelpaus has registered 28,000 people within Sweden’s new regulated online gambling market and 77% are men, mostly under the age of 30.

Rosenberg said that all companies need to make sure that they work flawlessly and integrate with Spelpaus before first bets from players will be accepted.
