Cyprus Might Issue €1m To Promote Responsible Gambling

Home > Blog > News > Cyprus Might Issue €1m To Promote Responsible Gambling

The Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus might see a massive responsible gambling prevention campaign. It is reported that the local regulator requested €1m from the government to launch a campaign among people exposed to the activity.

The funds would go to several causes:

  • Advertisements promoting responsible gambling and problem gambling prevention among the intended audiences.
  • Online portal with relevant information and self-exclusion services.
  • Addiction prevention and intervention center establishment.

The news follows the recently opened land-based casinos in Cyprus that began operating just six months ago. The new establishments have already brought in €35m in half a year and serviced more than 400,000 people.

Cypriot gambling authority seems to be taking timely measures before Limmasol, the largest city in the country, will welcome a massive City of Dreams Mediterranean. The new casino is promised to be the biggest European integrated casino resort that will include 36 tables and 1,200 slot machines, with the potential economic impact of bringing €700m per year for the country.

Cyprus is not the only country to open up its territory to integrated casino resorts and stricter regulation. New Japanese IR plans are invoking new regulations and responsible gambling campaigns in the land of the rising sun.
