Winning the lottery is synonymous with the best of luck that could happen to anyone. However, winning is not all about glamour and class. After all, some lottery winners are not always aware of their winnings. Some that were aware, have walked away with the catch and later regret having won the lot. Here are the stories of some winners losing their money after winning the lottery.

Sherif Girgis – Losing Money From Buying a Nightclub

At 23 in 2007, he was lucky to land a jackpot of £17 million. However, ten years later, this millionaire now has almost nothing to call his own. He admits to taking advice from different individuals on investment ventures. Girgis invested in real estate, purchased a nightclub and a luxurious charter boat. After spending over £700,000 on the pub in a span of three years, the venture had lost over £500,000. Just the other day, he launched a lawsuit against his fortune manager Russell Poliwka. The court issued Poliwka a directive to repay Mr. Girgis $1.1 million in damages.

Michael Carroll – No Regrets

Michael has won a whopping £10 million fortune and blew it out on flashy cars and endless parties. He was even branded the Lotto Lout for this behavior. Now at 35, he works for a £10 an hour job for merchant coal firms. Carroll wakes up early to starts his work of chopping wood and lifting bags at 6 AM. He admits: easy come – easy go and says that he isn’t bitter how things went. Michael now lives a simplified life with no drugs and no parties.

Colin and Christine Weir – Marital Loss

The couple made away £with 161 million, making the largest ever EuroMillions payout. The couple set to break up just eight years after the win. They have also admitted to having been living separately for a while. Besides, in a press release, they indicated that they intended to have an amicable divorce.

Callie Rogers – Winning the Lottery, Losing Trust

Callie Rogers, one of the youngest lottery winners, made her £1.8 million fortune in 2003. She ended up doing several plastic surgeries, suffered from cocaine addiction and spent a ton on designer clothing. Rogers admits to having battled her own emotions, having trust issues, and even trying to commit suicide. She indicates that she regrets winning the lot. Now in her thirties, the mum of three is happy, working a regular job.
