In the context of card games, washing refers to a manual shuffling technique that involves the dealer spreading out the cards on the table and then mixing them.

If done properly, washing can result in a very good and thorough shuffle. However, it is also one of the slowest methods of shuffling cards.

As most land-based casinos use automated shuffling these days, washing, stripping, and other shuffling techniques are most common in informal, home-based gambling settings.
