Northern Marianas On a Path to Legalize Online Gambling

New markets show up in all sizes. These are not just the huge fresh playgrounds of America, but small island nations too, including the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a US territory located in the Pacific Ocean.

Local outlet Marianas Variety has already informed that the country’s House Committee on Gaming had one intriguing bill passed. If it manages to become a law, it would permit online gambling in the small island nation.

Earlier, Ralph Yumul, Committee Chairman, had postponed the bill to permit the Attorney General’s office to come up with commentary on the law. By the way, Yumul abstained, referring to worries generated by the Commonwealth Casino Commission. Earlier, the Commission had asked the House to thoroughly study gambling before making it come true.

CCC Chairman Juan Sablan said that the key concerns of the commission include such issues as problem gambling and money laundering, and proper regulation could mitigate them.

The plan suggests shifting regulatory responsibility to the CCC. In case it occurs, the group has suggested that the operators should use American or local banks and have a physical presence in the country. The given measures will help to soothe money laundering concerns, simultaneously increasing tax collections and auditing.

The bill has sprung out of house committee, and it’s going to be redirected to the full 20-member house where it could become a law, at least it has a good chance for it.
