Drop Box

In the context of land-based gambling, a drop box is a strongbox-type container used by casino dealers to store money and chips safely.

The main benefit of having a drop box at a table is convenience. The presence of a casino drop box enables players to buy and exchange chips directly at their table, without having to get up and go to the cashier’s cage. 

In rare instances, casino players will be permitted to put something other than chips or cash into the drop box. This typically happens when a gambler wants to continue the session despite having already lost their entire bankroll (see down to the felt). Some of the items most commonly exchanged for chips include luxury watches and jewelry.

The verb to drop means to put money or chips into the dropbox.
