Casino legislation will show up in Myanmar soon

In the near future, foreigner-only gambling joints might arise in Myanmar. The matter is that a bill being considered by Myanmar’s legislative body if approved would officially permit the gambling activity. The proposal is currently gaining much support. It’s believed that the given bill will be passed by Myanmar’s lawmakers in May as soon as they get back to work after this month’s break, as the Myanmar Times revealed.

The legislative move is expected to authorize changes to the Gambling Act 1986. Eventually, it suggests amendments proposed by Myanmar President Win Myint. The entire framework for the casino activity will be worked out as soon as the bill is approved.

The bill justifies the very presence of gambling joints in Yangon and Mandalay. What’s more, the bill also welcomes both foreign and domestic operators and investments. To enter these casinos one will require a passport. Only foreigners will be permitted to gamble.

Moreover, in the so-called “Golden Triangle” region of Myanmar, exactly where the city’s border stumbles on those of Laos and Thailand at the Ruak as well as Mekong Rivers, one can observe a number of gambling joints listed on casino directory online resources. Most of them are found in self-administered or autonomous zones, where the country’s cabinet doesn’t maintain enough control.

For the purpose of getting rid of those illegal gambling joints, the country’s cabinet considers legalized casinos as a promising measure. As follows from Myat Nyarna Soe of the country’s Joint Bill Committee, the country can’t shrug off the illegal gambling joints on its territory. The statesman stressed they require legalizing casinos and setting rules just to make gambling operations systematic. In addition to this, the new industry is expected to drastically increase the country’s tax gains. The government has successfully drafted the required regulations and the lawmakers need to have it approved.

As a matter of fact, the amendments to the gambling policies first arose in 2017 exactly when the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism required approval for legalized gambling joints. The measure is considered to be a measure to spur the country’s tourism economy and also its tax gains. Now, only two nations in the region don’t allow casinos. These are Thailand and Myanmar.

As parliament member Aung Hlaing Win told, they’re left behind in this regard as nearly all of their neighbors already have gambling joints. It’s clear that if the casino operators fail to settle in Myanmar, they’ll undoubtedly move to other countries.
