Apple Betting Apps Will Have to be iOS Native, Mobile Operators Not Ready

Apple has just announced its policy reform when it comes to mobile betting apps. Now, if an app in AppStore offers real money betting, it has to be iOS native.

To put it short, iOS native apps are developed specifically for iOS devices only. This means that the typical apps, which are often adapted from the main sites, may be removed. These would include betting, poker, bingo, lottery and casino apps.

Native iOS apps generally load faster and function more efficiently than regular applications. However, their development is time-consuming and very costly.

This would not be a huge issue for most operators, even if they would need to invest in native iOS app development. However, the deadline for the new guideline to be implemented is September 3. Therefore, the time constraint on betting operators might be too big to handle.

Agency Decree 53 has shared their views on the change. According to them, “Three months to build a fully featured native sportsbook app from scratch for a major operator is a massive undertaking and potentially unrealistic.”

Additionally, the deadline might be crucial for sportsbook apps. September 3 is just a few days away from the start of the new NFL season. In this case, some smaller betting companies might shift their focus on development, rather than crucial marketing.
